Chef, Casa Oaxaca (Oaxaca, Mexico) and Guzino Oaxaca (Mexico City, Mexico)
Chef Alejandro Ruiz’s earliest culinary memories trace back to his mother’s traditional Oaxacan dishes made with fresh ingredients from his family’s farm in Mexico. His love for native Oaxacan regional cuisine and contemporary techniques have made Chef Ruiz one of the most respected and celebrated Mexican chefs.
More than 18 years ago, Chef Ruiz founded the critically acclaimed Casa Oaxa in Mexico’s southwestern state of Oaxaca. Known for his simple yet sophisticated dishes inspired by the region, Chef Ruiz creates modern Mexican dishes bursting with color and flavor using seasonal ingredients sourced from the town’s famed Abastos food market. Many of Ruiz’s dishes are a tribute to his mother’s recipes passed down from generation to generation, each prepared with care.
Most recently, Chef Ruiz opened the doors of Guzina Oaxaca in the affluent Polanco neighborhood of Mexico City. Guzina, which means “kitchen” in the ancient Oaxacan language of Zapotec, offers upscale, authentic southern Mexican cuisine made with seasonal and organic ingredients regularly delivered from the southern region nearly six hours away.
