I attended the opening party of Santa Salsa in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, NY. it was held at Over the eight Bar at 594 Union Avenue
they are now calling the kitchen their home, working with the owners of the bar.
Santa Salsa is a collaborative adventure of three artists friends who are passionate about food, they started their adventure in the Rockaways in an actual food truck.
I got there early and met the one of the owners of Over the eight, then I met Sergio Barrios I introduced myself and spoke to him a bit about his food truck beginnings he mentioned he and his friends Ernesto Brando, and Alexander Chaparro got together and opened the food truck in Far Rockaway they were given the opportunity at Over the eight.
I started by ordering their Pan con Queso ( the Venezuelan street “grilled cheese” ) what a pleasant surprise is a grilled chunk marinated latin white cheese (queso blanco) served on a hot dog bun and topped with onions, ketchup, cabbage, mustard, crushed potato chips, mayo and Santa Salsa
Santa Salsa is their renowned sauce made with sweet corn.
The flavor is good it actually fooled my palate into thinking I was having a hot dog, it’s a great alternative if you don’t want beef dogs and healthier, they also have a vegetarian choice made with Carrot wedges.
Then I ordered the Pepito Sandwich they have a choice of Steak or Chicken, of course I had the steak version well-balanced nicely seasoned I ordered it with their Habanero salsa, was good noir overly spicy nice kick to it. topped with onions, cabbage, crushed potato chips, cheddar cheese, ketchup, mayo, mustard and Santa Salsa and you have the choice of ordering any of the special sauces (Santa salsa, or Picante- their famous Habanero/chipotle sauce).
The have a varied menu remember the theme is food truck so don’t think you are going to have a sit down dinner that is not what they are about, however it is a destination for food truck lovers in an indoor setting.
